Art on Main Street: Rasquachismo In-Person
Join us at the Main Street Branch Library and Huntington Beach Art Center for a brand new collaborative program series: Art on Main Street!
In this exciting partnership program, children ages 4-10 will learn about the world of art through books and hands-on projects at the HB Art Center. The program will begin at the Main Street Branch Library with an elementary-age storytime and book tasting, followed by a docent-led tour of the HB Art Center's newest exhibit, Rasquachismo: a multi-media exhibition celebrating Lowriders and Chicano culture. Following the tour, kids will get hands-on with the techniques and content of the exhibit, creating their own take-home projects with the guidance of professional artists.
Registration for this exciting program is limited and must be completed online.
When registering, please only register the child who will be participating in the program activities.
Adult(s) will still need to accompany participating children, but are not included in the registration count.
More about Rasquachismo:
Emerging from the barrios of Southern California, lowriding brought forth a long resistance against the American Dream and dominant idealist norms that attempted to anglicize the young Chicanx individual. Now, unapologetically visible, lowriders glisten in candy-colored paint and dance with the aid of hydraulics. The power of lowriding has become a rasquachismo expression of Mexican-American and Chicanx identity. Learn more on the HB Art Center website, here: www.huntingtonbeachartcenter.org.
